As Batman is preventing a rooftop suicide following the devastating CATACLYSM, he spots Mr. Freeze on a looting expedition. Following him to an underground tunnel, they encounter Clayface, freed from captivity by the quake. As the man Batman rescued watches, the two villains battle each other... and the Dark Knight!

In the back-up story A LONG SLOW DEATH We learn the reason for the rescued man's despair and what happens to him before his encounter with Batman.
