The Weapon X project that helped create the mutant killing machine known as Wolverine did not die with its creators. Efforts to develop and control a powerful weapon seldom do. The work continued, utilizing a genetic sample from the original Weapon X, run by a new generation of scientists. In order to make the project work, though, certain sacrifices had to be made. For example, the faulty Y chromosome from the sample DNA had to eliminated, creating an entirely new kind of killer -- a female one. The young girl who would be called X-23 was born with claws like the original Weapon X. Unfortunately for her creators, she would prove just as rebellious!
